Confidentiality is key to the effectiveness of the counselling process, so the personal information you share in counselling will be kept confidential. Confidentiality continues after the end of the counselling relationship. There are, however, some exceptions to confidentiality in which a counsellor has a duty to share information, in particular:
1. If a child is or may be at risk of abuse or neglect, or in need of protection.
2. If the counsellor believes that you or another person is at clear risk of imminent harm.
3. For the purposes of complying with a legal order such as a subpoena, or if the disclosure is otherwise required or authorized by law. (Please advise immediately of any expected court proceedings. Services do not include those of an expert witness.)
I may also disclose information for the purpose of professional consultations, in which case your identity will remain confidential.
The frequency of counselling sessions will depend on your individual needs, resources, schedule, and goals. Some clients may benefit from weekly sessions, while others may attend bi-weekly or monthly.
There is no commitment for minimum or maximum number of sessions.
